Press Secretary/Events Coordinator

A New York State legislator in Queens is currently seeking a full-time, salaried, Press Secretary/Special Events Coordinator to work in the district office. This dynamic role includes the following
Responsibilities:
oWrite press releases and other media materials for the legislator. Distribute said materials to a growing list of local and specialized reporters. oCultivate and continue to grow the list of local and specialized reporters from print to digital and television media. oWork with the Scheduler and the Albany staff to set up interviews for the legislator either over the phone, in-person, or virtually. oTravel with the legislator to various events and meetings, and take photos that will later be used in press releases and the legislator social media pages. oDevelop and implement a social media strategy and content plan, as well as a brand guide to be implemented across print and digital media, press, and social media oWork with the legislator to create a media plan for large-scale ideas/visions. oPlan, coordinate and run recurring yearly events throughout the district. Work with the legislator to create a yearly event plan. oCreate flyers and press materials to promote events to the local community. oManage staff and volunteers at events, if necessary including set up and breakdown of events, which may include the lifting of boxes, chairs, tables. oRepresent the legislator at local community meetings and relay information on what he is doing legislatively to the public. oOther office-related tasks such as answering the phone, dealing with constituents, making photocopies, etc. oDrafting releases, statements, and Op-Eds for the legislator to be put out 2-3 times per week at a minimum pending the legislator's approval. oResearch local issues and stay informed on the news occurring within the district, and the state. oOrganizing press conferences and identifying opportunities for joint press releases and conferences with other legislators at the state and city level. oEnsuring the legislators website stays up to date with current press releases, statements and photos. oGathering any mentions in the press of the legislator to ensure accuracy, as well as gathering press clips for a weekly rundown with the legislator. oProducing a list of upcoming events to be updated for use by the staff both in the office and for distribution at events. oProducing a breakdown of events, going community by community within the district. oWorking with local agencies when it comes to events to ensure compliance with regulations and to obtain permits for events.

Salary Range:
From $50000 to $55000 Annually
Minimum Qualification
The most qualified candidate will have a bachelor's degree or five years of related experience in the fields of government, communications, or media.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
